It’s all very well and good having 147kW, but what if you put that power in a smaller, lighter package than normal? You get the Volkswagen Polo GTi. Inheriting essentially the same powerplant as a mark VII Golf the Polo GTi is agile, quick and plenty of fun.
It sounds good too, with that throaty overrun throttle growl from the exhaust. There’s no transmission creep built into the DSG gearbox though, so you get a solid thump from both first and reverse gear as they engage. And while the car is comfortable enough for most purposes, a long trip would be a hard task due to the hard suspension.
