This GLE is all new, and it’s bloody huge. It doesn’t look that large from the outside due to its smooth exterior design, but it’s hard to get a clear view of where the SUV begins and ends from the driver’s seat. It does have an extremely good turning circle though, which at least means parking is easier.
It feels big on the road as well. The GLE, tested here in 180kW 300 D 4MATIC guise, has good acceleration and steering, but while cornering ability is competent, you are always aware of the bulk of the car resisting being encouraged to change direction.
Possibly the most important feature of the new GLE is that the cruise control buttons have been moved to a traditional position on the steering wheel, rather than a tiny stalk hidden away under the indicator stalk. This apparently was really putting off newcomers to the GLE brand.
